Sorry I’ve been away for a while. I was having such a good run on posts. Then work got in the way: big projects, too much to do, not enough time in the week. You know the drill.
Anyway, Puck and I managed to slip away last Saturday for some time in the field. We both needed it. She’s been spending too much time on the couch; I’ve been spending too much time in front of computer screens. Neither one of us is happy about it.
We headed my go-to cover. This is a spot we can count on for producing a grouse. It’s an older cut bordered by corn fields and dense, older-growth pine and spruce trees. Puck has been in this cover countless times, so she knows where to find the birds. This gives her the confidence to run big and on Saturday she bolted across that corn stubble and right into bird country. By the time she stopped, she was on point almost 500 yard out. That’s a bird dog.
