Serial Number: 303595. Ansley H. Fox created a timeless, high quality, simply designed box lock at his A.H. Fox Gun Co. in Philadelphia, PA. Most vintage side x side lovers are well-aware the 20ga. and 16ga. Fox guns are the most dynamic, lightweight, best handling American double guns ever created. Best of all, the 16ga. guns were all built on the diminutive 20ga. frame. This Fox A Grade, sn303595 made in 1937, is one of only 2500 Fox A Grade 16ga. guns ever made, with about 2200 remaining in existence due to loss and destruction, so there are few offered for sale. Only 10% or so were ever made with the English style stock, or maybe a few hundred in existence. Boxlock 12Ga. Shotgun By Alfred Davis of London: A very nice 12 gauge boxlock by Alfred Davis of London. This gun was built in the late 1920s and has 28″ barrels choked skeet (.004″) and full .035″). The gun is in excellent condition retaining around 40% of the original case colors, 95% of the original barrel blue, and 98% of the original wood finish. The receiver is scroll engraved in standard English scroll. The gun has very good stock dimensions of 14″ x 1 1/2″ x2 1/4″. The chambers are 2 1/2″ and the bores are mint and free of any dents or pits. The barrels are in proof and on face. They lock up with no play or looseness. The gun weighs 6lbs, 3oz and balances on the hinge. It comes cased in the original makers case with case labels and a reproduction copy of Davis’s catalog. This would make a great grouse, woodcock, or quail gun. It would also be a fine pheasant gun for walking those big cornfields. A great value in an English double. Price: $1595
