The Hermann H. Heiser Saddlery Co. of Denver, Co., used to make some of the finest saddles, shooting accessories, and leather goods in the country. From 1874 – 1955, they supplied farmers, ranchers, and shooters throughout the US.
Today their saddles, holsters, and gun cases are extremely collectible – especially the highly tooled models. This leather leg o’mutton shotgun case on Ebay now is an H.H. Heiser.
This model was Heiser’s least expensive leg o’mutton. But even though it had a low price point, it was still well made. Other makers used a lot of cardboard and cheap leather in their cases. Heiser used saddle-grade leather and stitching throughout. For added life, the handles and clasps were also higher quality, and the fastening points were rivitted through the leather.
If you look closely at the second pic, you can see Heiser’s HHH trademark on one of these rivits. That’s what gives it away as a Heiser.
