Happy 2013! As you nurse your hangover and make plans for 2013, here’s a nice shotgun to check out.
Thomas Wild was one of the old-guard Birmingham gunmakers. Founded in 1857, they made offered a wide range of firearms up until about 1937. One of their last catalogs featured best-quality sidelock ejectors for £60, entry level A&D boxlocks for £9, and hammerguns at £7. The hammergun you see here may have been one of the £7 models.
Even though it was a low-grade gun in its day, it was still very well made. And it is still in excellent condition today – something you rarely see in lower grade guns. With fluid steel barrels and a nice long stock and a price of $2750, it would make a great shotgun for anyone who wants the pluses of a hammergun without the minuses (tired old barrels, wood that has been refinished to death, etc).
