I’m a fanatic for old shotguns. That being said, I do realize modern SxSs and OUs have benefits: Perfected designs, suitability with modern ammo, easier to fix, etc.
Of the modern stuff out there, I’ve always liked Ithaca/SKB side by sides. SKB is another of Japan’s famous gunmakers and Ithaca imported SxSs and OUs made by them from 1966-1977 or so. Well made and rugged, these guns are great deals when you find them today.
The one you see here is a 280. Introduced in ’71 as an English Field model, it was Ithaca/SKB’s “…excitingly new deluxe field gun…in the classic English style.” It’s built on a Anson& Deeley style boxlock action and features ejectors, chrome-lined barrels and hand checkering.
Priced at $249.95 when it first hit the market, it cost far less than Browning’s Superposeds, which started at $465.
RE: It’s the Ithaca/SKB/s 25″ barrels? Don’t fear ’em. For upland shooting, most your shots are quick pokes rather. So the short tubes won’t make a difference.
ITHACA SKB 280 20GA SIDE-BY-SIDE EXCELLENT: A very lightly used 20ga Ithaca/SKB. Very few hunting marks keep this gun from being 100%. It’s getting harder to find these guns in this kind of shape. Good to go, no issues, close to new. Price: $1850
