Auction alert: The Finest Toy Gun in the World – A.H. Fox’s double barrel play shotgun…

Lot 441: A Vintage AH Fox Gun Co. Toy Double Barrel Shotgun
Lot 441: A Vintage AH Fox Gun Co. Toy Double Barrel Shotgun. Under lever opening

I had all sort of toy guns when I was a kid – from water and cap pistols to a Daisy BB-guns and air rifles. Had I been born in the 1920s, I’m sure I would have loved one of the A.H. Fox toy guns you see here.

I think A.H. Fox introduced these toy doubles around 1926, and the company made them in several configurations — double and single barrel, top lever and under-lever opening, a model that broke down like a real SxS, and even a pump-action repeater version. When new, the toy guns came in a cardboard box with a couple spring-loaded shells and wooden balls. Some even came with targets.

I have no idea how many toys guns Fox made, and they do pop up on the market from time to time. It is unusual that 3 of them are coming to auction this month.
