AYA is on of Spain’s oldest gunmakers. Founded in 1915 by Miguel Aguirre and Nicolas Aranzabal— Aguirre y Aranzabal is still making shotguns and double rifles today. Since 1960, the No. 4/53 has been their standard boxlock. According to the company’s website, the No. 4 was modeled off of a Westley Richards. Mechanically, it’s a simple Anson & Deeley design which employs a Purdey double underbolt locking system. It also features disc-set firing pins, a replaceable hinge pin, and chopper-lump barrels.

AYA 28 gauge No. 4 model Boxlock SxS with 27 inch barrels: Choked, according to my cheap choke gauge,it has fixed Cylinder & Improved Cylinder, and the right barrel would not quite take the Cylinder indicator so its tighter than Cylinder, the bores are like new. The outside of the barrels retain 98% or more of the original blued finish. The receiver which is patterned after the famous Westley Richards box lock design is lightly engraved and color case hardened, retaining 95% or more of the case colors, the only wear is on the edges where the balance
point for carrying is. No rust or cracks its in excellent condition, very solid and clean, near new looking. Double triggers but it has automatic ejectors and they work very positively. It has the strait English style stock and the corresponding splinter forend which makes it look very trim and racy, the LOP is 14 & 3/4’s inches and the end of the stock is checkered sans buttplate. The wood used for the butt stock seems to be a high grade Walnut, I don’t know if this is the grade 2 model or not, it does have the silver initial plate on the bottom of the stock. I do know its a great looking gun, fast handling, it only weighs in at 5 pounds & 2 ounces.
