French 16ga SxS Boxlock Chukar Gun 5lbs 11oz

Here’s a double that looks like a great deal. It’s no-name Belgian gun, probably made for sporting goods shop in France. Unlike in the US, European gunmakers built thousands of shotguns like this  for retailers throughout the continent. Sometimes retailers would put their name on the gun, other times they wouldn’t.

I’ve seen lots of Anson & Deeley-style boxlock Belgian guns like this, and they’ve been solid, reliable SxSs. I bet this would be a great upland — and it looks like its going to go for very little money. It’s on Gunbroker.com now and the listing ends tomorrow, 5/19/2019, @ 9:00 PM.

One thing: I would be sure to ask the seller about his inspection & return policy before bidding. Right now, he doesn’t mention anything about it in his listing.

French 16ga SxS Boxlock Chukar Gun 5lbs 11oz: Here is a very solid, lightweight 16 gauge boxlock non-ejector, built in France. There is no maker’s name, but the gun bears St. Etienne proofs and is stamped “Medaille d’Or (gold medal) on the barrel flats. The barrels are 68cm (26 3/4″) with 2 1/2″ chambers and shiny bores, choked .020/.032 (about modified/full). The action features side-clips and locks up tight. The fore-end has a Deeley-style latch release, and is unusually long (about 11”.) The stock has plenty of dings and scratches but is quite solid, and measures 1 3/4″ x 2 7/8″ x 14 1/2″ over a horn butt. There is slight cast off. A fine all-around upland gun, and absolutely perfect for the chukar hunter.
