When I was a kid, the Orvis News was a paper that arrived in our mailbox every month. It featured fishing stories, product plugs, pictures from customers — that kind of stuff. It also listed the shotguns Orvis had on hand in their Manchester showroom. I swear I saw one these Orvis Arrietas back then. I didn’t know what it was, but I knew I wanted it.
These Orvis Arrietas are similar to Arrieta 557s. Their blacked-actions are stunning looking, and overall, this one is a great looking side by side. It’s on Gunbroker.com now and this online auction listing ends on 3/29/2020 @ 7:24 PM
The opening bid is $2700 and if you can get it for that much, I think you’ll get a good deal. Here the information about the gun from the seller:
Arrieta 16 ga SxS Orvis Custom Uplander 27″ sidelock ejectors: Double triggers, English straight stock, splinter forearm, sliding tang safety, 27 inch ejector barrels 2 ¾ inch chambers and choke modified and full. Blued receiver and barrels. Weighs about 6 pounds, 7 ounces.
Length of pull is approximately 14 1/8 inches from front trigger to the end of the wood. Stock currently has a ½ inch Pachmeyer Decelerator pad on it. Drop at the end of the buttpad is 1 7/8 inches and 1 3/8 at the comb. It has a brass oval that is non-engraved and the finish has a slight shine to it.
This is a used gun. I bought it used and have hunted and killed with it. I do not know the number of rounds it has fired but it still locks up tight and is on face. It has some minor hunting bruises to the wood but no dents or gouges to the metal. Some of the sharp edges have had some bluing loss. I an only selling because I bought a 30” LS Smith in 16 gauge to dove/quail hunt in the brush.
This gun is not overly engraved. Having only a tasteful border line and a couple engraved screw heads. some would call it a “funeral model” . I like the look.
These Spanish made doubles are getting harder to find at a reasonable price. Recent or current manufactured sidelocks from either Spain or Italy seem to start around 5 grand and go up from there. Here’s your chance to get a great shooting double at a reasonable price that has lots of hunt still in it.
