I love hammerguns, but while they have their pluses, one of their drawbacks is that most of them are real old – usually 125 years plus. A lot can happen to a gun in a century plus — poor cleaning, shoddy repairs, rough handling — and mistreatment can add up over the years and really take a toll on a gun.
The gun you see here caught my eye for a couple reasons. First, it’s relatively young for a hammergun. Made in the early years of the 20th century, it’s about as modern as British hammerguns get. Then there’s the fluid-steel barrels. Most quality hammerguns were made back in the days of damascus steel. Finally, it looks like it’s in excellent condition, and it even comes in its original case.
