I’ve always like L.C. Smiths. While Parkers and Foxes are nice shotguns, I like the looks of a SxS with sidelocks. L.C. Smith was the only major American maker to build sidelocks, and today I think these guns are some of the best deals out there. While Parkers keep going up in price, and people are paying more and more for smallbore Foxes, you can still buy a nice LC for under $2000.
This 20g LC is a No. OO grade. From 1896 to 1913, the No. OO was LC’s entry level double. According to the LC Smith Collectors site, Hunter Arm’s 1900 catalog called the OO “A thoroughly reliable gun at a price within the reach of all. The new Armour Steel barrels are plain, but will stand the severest strain of nitro powder. English walnut stock; half pistol grip; checkered and well finished . . .” LC Smith made over 47,000 No. OOs. Of those, 3,382 were 20 gauges.
