Auction alert: Rare & light, 12 gauge Remington 1894 AE, 2 bbl set…

High condition, lghtweight Remington 1894 AE 2 bbl set
High condition, lightweight Remington 1894 AE 2 bbl set

Remington 1894 are the Rodney Dangerfields of American Doubles. Even though they’re as well made as other American SxSs from that period, they get no respect. They don’t command nutso prices, either. And hat’s great new for anyone who appreciates fine SxSs AND likes getting deal.

The 1894 you see here is a rare model. While almost all 12 gauge American SxSs (including most Remingtons) are heavy guns — 7 1/2 lbs+., this one comes in at a trim 6 lbs. 10 oz. Condition wise, this double is about as good as they good–especially for a gun that’s 100+ years old.

12 gauge, Remington 1894 AE 28″ & 30″ bbls, lightweight, ejectors, case color:  High condition Remington 1894 AE 12 ga. “Lightweight” ejector field gun, 2 barrel set. Up for auction is a very rare Remington 1894 “Lightweight” (6 lbs. 10 oz.) field gun in excellent un-touched condition, factory 2 barrel set. This is the only one we’ve ever seen being a long barreled American vintage double with English Game Gun weight.

Remington catalog stated that the AE grades were available in weights from 6 ¾ – 8 lbs. Here’s one that weighs in at a featherweight 6 lbs. 10 oz. with both the 28 & 30” barrels. See specifications below, the gun has nominal bore diameters and thick walls. Small frame gun with frame width at a full .100 narrower than a standard frame gun. Appears to be a 12 built on a 16 sized frame – this is a true lightweight. Lots of case color and original barrel brown left on this one.

Standing breech shows little evidence of firing. Bores have no pitting, just a very light hint of frosting here and there…Otherwise excellent. Gun has excellent lock-up and no mechanical, or wood issues. High condition 1894 Ejector guns in high condition are hard enough to find, but even harder to find another lightweight much less one in this condition with 2 sets of barrels. This one is sharp all over!
